Let's Maximize Your 6-Hour Coverage!

Hey there, lovely engaged people! Planning a wedding is a whirlwind, right? And figuring out the photography timeline can feel like another giant to-do on that mile-long list. But don't stress, because your favorite Austin wedding photographer (yep, that's me!) is here to help! I totally get that you want amazing photos without emptying your bank account. That's why I'm a HUGE fan of the 6-hour wedding photography timeline. It's the backbone of my affordable luxury wedding photography approach, and trust me, we can capture all the must-have moments in those 6 hours. So, let's dive into creating the perfect "Ultimate Wedding Day Photography Timeline" that'll make your memories shine!

Why 6 Hours Is the Sweet Spot

Listen up, because here's a little secret: you don't need a million hours of photography to get those heart-stopping wedding photos. Six hours is often perfect to snag all the good stuff:

  • Getting Ready: The giggles, the happy tears, and those precious moments before you say "I do."

  • The Ceremony: The big "I do's," that first smooch, and that celebratory walk back up the aisle!

  • Formal Portraits: The classic family and bridal party shots (because Mom will want them!).

  • Couple Portraits: This is where the magic happens! Time for those fun, lively, and maybe a little romantic pics of you two.

  • Reception Highlights: The grand entrance, the first dance, those hilarious toasts, and plenty of time to get down on the dance floor!

The Ultimate 6-Hour Wedding Day Photography Timeline (aka: The "No-Stress" Schedule)

This timeline is my go-to for traditional weddings (no first look!) and rocks two photographers. Why two? Because it's like having photography superpowers! We can be in two places at once, capturing all the action (like, one of us with you and your girls, and the other with your partner and their crew!).

Here's a peek at a sample 6-hour timeline I create with my amazing couples:

2:30 PM: Start of Coverage / Flat Lay Details

We arrive and start snapping those gorgeous details: the dress, the shoes, the invites, and any heirloom or sentimental item you have. We also grab shots of the reception space before your guests arrive, so all that decor work you poured your heart into gets its moment before anyone sets a purse down on the table.

3:00 PM: Bride Getting Ready

This is documentary photography at its finest. Candid laughs with your girls, Mom fussing over your veil, the nervous energy in the room, all of it. These are the shots you'll be so glad you have.

3:30 PM: Groom Getting Ready

While one of us is with you and your bridesmaids, the other is with your partner and their crew, capturing all the fun, candid moments as they get ready too. Two photographers means both sides of your story get told, at the same time.

3:45 PM: Bride Final Touches

Those final touches, like Mom or your sisters helping with your dress or veil, always make for such a beautiful moment. We'll be right there for it.

4:00 PM: Ceremony

We'll be ninjas, capturing your ceremony from all the best angles, so you can relive every "I do." This is also where I get to capture one of my absolute favorite moments of a wedding day: the parent walking their child down the aisle. While everyone's focused on the couple, I'm watching that reaction, and it's always so incredibly moving.

4:30 PM: Cocktail Hour / Family Portraits / couple portraits

While your guests are sipping cocktails and mingling, we'll get the classic family and bridal party shots knocked out quickly and painlessly, I promise. This is also when we sneak away for couple portraits, my FAVE part of the day! This is when we get some seriously fun and lively photos of just you two. Get ready to snuggle (a little)!

5:30 PM: Introduction to Reception

Let's capture that epic entrance as you make your debut as a married couple!

5:40 PM: Dinner

This is when I sneak off to photograph your rings! It's the safest time to grab those detailed shots, since there's no worry about them getting misplaced before the ceremony. Plus, it gives me time to work my magic on those tiny, delicate, and super important details. I also love photographing rings during dinner because everyone's busy eating, so I'm not photographing anyone mid-bite! The ring shot is one of my favorite shots of the wedding day.

6:30 PM: Toasts

Get ready for laughter and maybe a few tears! We'll capture all the feels during those speeches.

6:45 PM: First Dance

We'll capture your first dance as a married couple.

6:50 PM: Parent Dance (Groom and Mom)

Cue the waterworks! We'll get those sweet, tender moments as your partner shares this dance with their mom.

6:55 PM: Parent Dance (Bride and Dad)

And right after, we'll capture that same sweetness as you share your dance with your dad. These back-to-back parent dances are always some of the most emotional shots of the whole day.

7:00 PM: Open Dance Floor

Party time! Let's get those dance floor shots! I usually recommend about an hour max of open dancing here. Here's the deal: it's often the same people on the dance floor all night, so we get tons of fun variety in that first hour!

8:00 PM: Cake Cutting (or Ice Cream / Pie / Jello / Doughnuts Serving!)

Let's capture this sweet tradition! Whether it's cake, ice cream, pie, or something else delicious, we'll be there to get the shot.

8:10 PM: Bouquet / Garter Toss / more dancing

Whether you're keeping this tradition classic or putting your own fun spin on it, we'll be right there to capture the chaos, the laughs, and whoever ends up diving for that bouquet. If not, it's cool, let's keep the party going!

8:20 PM: Faux Getaway

Sparklers, ribbon wands, or a wall of bubbles, whatever exit you dream up, we'll capture your faux getaway so you get that grand, cinematic send-off shot, even though the party keeps going after we wrap.

8:30 PM: End of Coverage

And that's a wrap! Six hours, every must-have moment covered, and zero stress on your end. That's the goal.

But What If 6 Hours Isn't Enough?

Here's the thing: this timeline works for the vast majority of my couples. But I had one bride who wasn't so sure. I walked her through this exact schedule, and she still felt nervous it wouldn't be enough time. So we came up with a plan. I sent her an invoice for 2 extra hours of coverage, but told her not to pay it until we knew for sure whether we'd need it. Sure enough, on the wedding day, we finished everything within our original 6 hours, no extra time needed.

That's the thing about a good timeline: it's a plan, not a cage. There are always exceptions to the rule, and we're flexible. If you and your partner decide you want extra coverage, whether that's planned ahead of time like my bride above, or a last-minute call on the day itself, we can absolutely stay longer for an additional fee, as noted in your contract.
